tamiddoṣā tamuṣasi yaviṣṭhamagnimatyaṃ na marjayanta naraḥ niśiśānā atithimasya yonau dīdāya śocirāhutasya vṛṣṇaḥ
This offence, this darkness, you (men) have not cleansed, O most impure Agni. Night‑creatures, the guests of the home, the two‑born bulls of the sacrificer cried aloud — the vigorous one for the libationed offering.
Men cherish that youthful Agni at evening and at dawn, as (they tend) a horse; lighting him as a guestin his proper station; the radiance of the showerer (of benefits), to whom the oblation is offered, shines brightly.
The men have decked him both at eve and morning, Most Youthful Agni, as they tend a courser. They kindle him, a guest within his dwelling: bright shines the splendour of the worshipped Hero.
