एकं॑ च॒ यो विं॑श॒तिं च॑ श्रव॒स्या वै॑क॒र्णयो॒र्जना॒न्राजा॒ न्यस्तः॑ । द॒स्मो न सद्म॒न्नि शि॑शाति ब॒र्हिः शूरः॒ सर्ग॑मकृणो॒दिन्द्र॑ एषाम्
ekaṃ ca yo viṃśatiṃ ca śravasyā vaikarṇayorjanānrājā nyastaḥ dasmo na sadmanni śiśāti barhiḥ śūraḥ sargamakṛṇodindra eṣām
One and twenty, and twenty besides, were placed as earless rulers by the kinsmen; he fashioned the brave man, making abundant seats—these Indra created for them.
The hero Indra created the Maruts (for the assistance of the rājā), who, ambitious of fame, slewone-and-twenty of the men on the two banks (of the Paruṣṇi), as a well-looking priest lops the sacred grass inthe chamber of sacrifice.
The King who scattered one-and-twenty people of both Vaikarna tribes through lust of glory- As the skilled priest clips grass within the chamber, so hath the Hero Indra, wrought their downfall.
