brāhmaṇāso atirātre na some saro na pūrṇamabhito vadantaḥ saṃvatsarasya tadahaḥ pari ṣṭha yanmaṇḍūkāḥ prāvṛṣīṇaṃ babhūva
Brahmin folk, overnight, not like Soma, not full, spoke about the stream. That day and night of the year, say the frogs, became rain-beset.
Like Brāhmaṇas at the Soma libation, at the Atirātra sacrifice, you are now croaking around thereplenished lake (throughout the night), for on that day of the year you frogs are everywhere about, when it is theday of the serving of the rains.
As Brahmans, sitting round the brimful vessel, talk at the Soma-rite of Atiratra, So, Frogs, ye gather round the pool to honour this day of all the year, the first of Rain-time.
