O Agni, by placing fuel you made the gods’ messenger and the bearer of sacrifice. Having wide vigorous might, source of ghee, you were invoked; you gave the eye and stirred the mind.
Agni, young (of the deities), the gods have made you, when kindled, their messenger, the bearer of oblations; you, who are rapid in movement, and of whom butter is the source, they have made, when invoked, the brilliant eye (of the universe), instrumental gated by the understanding.
The Gods, Most Youthful Agni, have made thee, inflamed, the bearer of oblations and the messenger. Thee, widely-reaching, homed in sacred oil, invoked, effulgent, have they made the Eye that stirs the thought.
