उ॒त स्मा॑सु प्रथ॒मः स॑रि॒ष्यन्नि वे॑वेति॒ श्रेणि॑भी॒ रथा॑नाम् । स्रजं॑ कृण्वा॒नो जन्यो॒ न शुभ्वा॑ रे॒णुं रेरि॑हत्कि॒रणं॑ दद॒श्वान्
uta smāsu prathamaḥ sariṣyanni veveti śreṇibhī rathānām srajaṃ kṛṇvāno janyo na śubhvā reṇuṃ rerihatkiraṇaṃ dadaśvān
They first fashioned for him a necklace and placed him in ranks of chariots; making a harness they gave him offspring, not fair, and cast away the light of rays.
And who, issuing forth the first in those encounters, rushes in various directions with rows of chariots; like an elegant (courser), friendly to man, decorated with a garland, raising the dust, and champing his bit.
And, fain to come forth first amid these armies, this way and that with rows of cars he rushes, Gay like a bridesman, making him a garland, tossing the dust, champing the rein that holds him.
