Those men are praised who, near and attentive, made the paths: they fashioned the protection. Between them what was renounced in mutual striving—fire, manly food, the son's choice—these paired together.

Men verily call upon him in battle; the (devout) inflicters of austerity upon their person ns constitute him their preserver; when both (the worshipper and the priest) approach together the bountiful Indra, men (succeed) in (obtaining) the gift of sons and grandsons.

Him, verily, the men invoke in combat; risking their lives they make him their protector, When heroes, foe to foe, give up their bodies, fighting, each side, for children and their offspring.
