Desiring Indra envied the flames; they poured forth the sacrificial heat, and by hymns were made excellent. The listeners were gentle, pacified by songs; like a warrior the sustenance stood firm.
Relying (upon Indra) for protection, and desirous of riches, (pious men) repair to him soliciting his presence in the sacrifice, as if in the battle, asking for food, celebrating his praise with hymns, for he is the refuge (of his worshippers), and resembles the grateful and lovely (goddess) of nutrition.
Wishes for wealth have gone to Indra, longing for him in war for light and at libation, Eager for glory, labouring with praisesongs: he is like home, like sweet and fair nutrition.
