Indra, striking us not, with thunderous arm removed Vṛtra and bound the rivers’ courses; the god Savitar with beneficent hands brought forth the streams we now pour as channels of the flood.

The rivers speak; Indra, the wielder of the thunder-bolt, dug our channels when he slew Ahi the blocker-up of rivers; the divine and well-handed Savitā has led us (on our path), and obedient tohis commands we flow (as) ample (streams).

Indra who wields the thunder dug our channels: he smote down Vrtra, him who stayed our currents. Savitar, God, the lovely-handed, led us, and at his sending forth we flow expanded.
