indreṣite prasavaṃ bhikṣamāṇe acchā samudraṃ rathyeva yāthaḥ samārāṇe ūrmibhiḥ pinvamāne anyā vāmanyāmapyeti śubhre
When Indra desired birth, seeking the boon, he laid forth the ocean like a chariot; with waves assembling in ranks they girded it, and other streams likewise came forth, brightening the waters.
Impelled by Indra, soliciting (his commands), you go to the ocean like charioteers (to their goal); flowing together, and swelling with (your) waves, bright (rivers) one of you proceeds to the other.
Impelled by Indra whom ye pray to urge you, ye move as 'twere on chariots to the ocean. Flowing together, swelling with your billows, O lucid Streams, each of you seeks the other.
