आ॒वद॒ँस्त्वं श॑कुने भ॒द्रमा व॑द तू॒ष्णीमासी॑नः सुम॒तिं चि॑किद्धि नः । यदु॒त्पत॒न्वद॑सि कर्क॒रिर्य॑था बृ॒हद्व॑देम वि॒दथे॑ सु॒वीराः॑
āvadam̐stvaṃ śakune bhadramā vada tūṣṇīmāsīnaḥ sumatiṃ cikiddhi naḥ yadutpatanvadasi karkariryathā bṛhadvadema vidathe suvīrāḥ
Speak, O most auspicious bird, be silent while seated with good counsel that grants us prosperity. When you fly away like the cry of Karkarī, great‑voiced poets and brave men attend assemblies for us.
When uttering your cry, O Bird, proclaim good fortune; when sitting silently cherish kind thoughts towards us; when you cry as you are flying, let the sound be like that of a lute; so that, blessed with excellent descendants, we may worthily praise you at this sacrifice.
When singing here, O Bird. announce good luck to us, and when thou sittest still think on us with kind thoughts. When flying off thou singest thou art like a lute. With brave sons in assembly may we speak aloud. RIG VEDA - BOOK THE THIRD
