You first discoursed in heaven the food for men and cattle, O Indra, that which was to be offered. For the god’s feast with carcasses began, the waters repaid their debt. The earth and the wide world gave wealth by might; Vigour declared the hundred-rited hymn.

Indra, the delighter (of all), the first act performed by you in ancient time was for the good of man, and deserving of renown in heaven, when, arresting by force the breath of the (enemy) of the gods, you did send down the rain; may Indra prevail by his prowess over all that is godless; may Śatakratu obtain vigour; may he obtain (sacrificial) food.

This, Indra, was thy hero deed, Dancer, thy first and ancient work, worthy to be told forth in heaven, What time thou sentest down life with a God's own power, freeing the floods. All that is godless may he conquer with his might, and, Lord of Hundred Powers, find for us strength and food.
