After from before, and after from beneath, O poet, defend with skillful verse, O king. Friend of friends, immortal for the aged and the old, Agni, you are our mortals' savior.

Royal Agni, who are a sage, protect us by your wisdom on the west, on the east, on the south, on thenorth; do you, O friend, who are undecaying, (preserve me), your friend, to old age; do you who are immortal,(protect) us who are mortal.

From rear, from front, from under, from above us, O King, protect us as a Sage with wisdom. Guard to old age thy friend, O Friend, Eternal: O Agni, as Immortal, guard us mortals.
