वाता॑सो॒ न ये धुन॑यो जिग॒त्नवो॑ऽग्नी॒नां न जि॒ह्वा वि॑रो॒किणः॑ । वर्म॑ण्वन्तो॒ न यो॒धाः शिमी॑वन्तः पितॄ॒णां न शंसाः॑ सुरा॒तयः॑
vātāso na ye dhunayo jigatnavo'gnīnāṃ na jihvā virokiṇaḥ varmaṇvanto na yodhāḥ śimīvantaḥ pitṝṇāṃ na śaṃsāḥ surātayaḥ
The winds are not those who chant the hymns, nor the victorious tongues of fires. Warriors adorned with mail are not the praisers of the fathers; the divine songs are not to be praised by mere drinkers.
(The Maruts), who like the winds cause (the gods) to tremble and move swift; blazing like the flames offires, (who are) the achievers of heroic deeds like warriors clad in mail; munificent donors like the praises ofancestors.
Shakers of all, like gales of wind they travel, like tongues of burning fires in their effulgence. Mighty are they as warriors clad in armour, and, like the Fathers' prayers, Most Bounteous Givers.
