यस्ति॒त्याज॑ सचि॒विदं॒ सखा॑यं॒ न तस्य॑ वा॒च्यपि॑ भा॒गो अ॑स्ति । यदीं॑ शृ॒णोत्यल॑कं शृणोति न॒हि प्र॒वेद॑ सुकृ॒तस्य॒ पन्था॑म्
yastityāja sacividaṃ sakhāyaṃ na tasya vācyapi bhāgo asti yadīṃ śaṛṇotyalakaṃ śaṛṇoti nahi praveda sukṛtasya panthām
He who holds fast this true friend-knowledge has no share in empty speech. If one hears the shallow word, he does not attain the path of well-done deeds.
He who has abandoned the friend who knows the duty of a friend, in his speech there is not a particle(of sense); what he hears, he hears amiss; for he knows not the path of righteousness.
No part in Vak hath he who hath abandoned his own dear friend who knows the truth of friendship. Even if he hears her still in vain he listens: naught knows he of the path of righteous action.
