bṛhaspate prathamaṃ vāco agraṃ yatprairata nāmadheyaṃ dadhānāḥ yadeṣāṃ śreṣṭhaṃ yadaripramāsītpreṇā tadeṣāṃ nihitaṃ guhāviḥ
Brihaspati, the first of speech, who set the leading word the seers gave; whatever of theirs was best, whatever did not shrink from the foes—there the hidden oblation was placed.
That, Bṛhaspati, is the best (part) of speech which those giving a name (to objects) first utter; thatwhich was the best of those (words) and free from defect, (Sarasvatī) reveals it though secretly imparted, bymeans of affection.
WHEN-men, Brhaspati, giving names to objects, sent out Vak's first and earliest utterances, All that was excellent and spotless, treasured within them, was disclosed through their affection.
