ahaṃ guṅgubhyo atithigvamiṣkaramiṣaṃ na vṛtraturaṃ vikṣu dhārayam yatparṇayaghna uta vā karañjahe prāhaṃ mahe vṛtrahatye aśuśravi
I set the guest-feast before the gungas; I strove against Vritra’s doom and upheld it. Whatever leaf-sunderer or strong thorn I set forth, I spoke it for great slaying of Vritra and for fame.
I prepared Atithigva for (the protection of) the Guṅgus, I upheld him, the destroyer of enemies, assustenance among the people; when I gained renown in the great Vṛtra-battle, in which Parṇaya and Karañja= hospitable; guṅgus = name of a people; parṇaya and karañja = names of asuras].
Against the Gungus I made Atithigva strong, and kept him mid the folk like Vrtra-conquering strength, When I won glory in the great foe-slaying fight, in battle where Karanja fell, and Parnaya.
