With the tongue they bore the fever, Agni endowed with breath, by the wind and by the thought of earth. They purified the dark ones and set the purifier, the liberal priest, the mild one, to perform the rite.
Agni, who bears off (the oblation) with his tongue (of flames), who bears off the hymns of praise with(favourable) mind (for the preservation) of the earth; him men appointed as the shining, purifying, exulting hotā,the most entitled to worship.
The tongue of Agni bears away the praisesong, and, through his care for Earth, her operations. Him, bright and radiant, living men have stablished as their blithe Priest, the Chief of Sacrificers.
