kūcijjāyate sanayāsu navyo vane tasthau palito dhūmaketuḥ asnātāpo vṛṣabho na pra veti sacetaso yaṃ praṇayanta martāḥ
From the cooing a new one is born in the camps; a young one stood in the forest, pale as smoke. The unbathed bull does not enter; the thoughtful man whom mortals cherish.
Where is the new (Agni) born? He is present in the old (plural nt) and in the wood, grey-haired,smoke-bannered; though not needing ablution, he hastens to the water like a (thirsty) bull, he whom men withone consent propitiate.
He rises ever fresh in ancient fuel: smoke-bannered, gray, he makes the wood his dwelling. No swimmer, Steer, he presses through the waters, and to his place accordant mortals bear him.
