bṛhannacchāyo apalāśo arvā tasthau mātā viṣito atti garbhaḥ anyasyā vatsaṃ rihatī mimāya kayā bhuvā ni dadhe dhenurūdhaḥ
A great sheath, like broad leaves, stood firm—mother impregnated, the embryo grew. Another's calf she bore away; by what means did the cow, ridden, place it in her womb?
The great (sun), shadeless, undecaying, ever-moving, abides; the builder (of the world), who isliberated, the germ (of the three worlds), eats (the oblations), fondling the offspring of another (mother), heconstructs (the quarters of the world); with what design has the cow offered her udder?
High, leafless, shadowless, and swift is Heaven: the Mother stands, the Youngling, loosed, is feeding. Loud hath she lowed, licking Another's offspring. In what world hath the Cow laid down her udder?
