pravatte agne janimā pitūyataḥ sācīva viśvā bhuvanā nyṛñjase pra saptayaḥ pra saniṣanta no dhiyaḥ puraścaranti paśupā iva tmanā
Agni, you arose, born of fathers, companion of all realms; you pervade the sevenfold and the wise, moving like herdsman among the folk.
Exalted is the birth of you, Agni, who are desirous of (sacrificial) food; you preside like a councillorover all created beings; our praises flowing smoothly proceed to you, as herdsmen of their own will (go slowly)before (their flocks).
Thy birth who seekest food is in the falling flood, Agni: as Comrade thou winnest all living things. Our coursers and our songs shall be victorious: they of themselves advance like one who guards the herd.
