य॒मो नो॑ गा॒तुं प्र॑थ॒मो वि॑वेद॒ नैषा गव्यू॑ति॒रप॑भर्त॒वा उ॑ । यत्रा॑ नः॒ पूर्वे॑ पि॒तरः॑ परे॒युरे॒ना ज॑ज्ञा॒नाः प॒थ्या॒३॒॑ अनु॒ स्वाः
yamo no gātuṃ prathamo viveda naiṣā gavyūtirapabhartavā u yatrā naḥ pūrve pitaraḥ pareyurenā jajñānāḥ pathyā3 anu svāḥ
Yama first made the cows go for us; this is not the herdsman's fault. Where our fathers went before, beyond, they, knowing the paths, followed their own ways.
Yama, the chief (of all), knows our well-being; this pasture no one can take from us; by the road bywhich our forefathers have gone, all who are born (proceed) along the paths they have made for themselveṣ
Yama first found for us a place to dwell in: this pasture never can be taken from Us. Men born on earth tread their own paths that lead them whither our ancient Fathers have departed.
