The warhost clove and broke; the slayers of ten Vrtras strike splendid. Indra with his thunderbolt shattered the high foe; he advanced, smiting hostile ranks.

(Indra), leading an irresistible army, slaying Vṛtra with the pervading piercing (bolt), gives (wealth tohis worshippers), thins the (hosts of the asuras) which have to be attacked; (the whole host of the enemy) wasafraid of Indra's wide-destroying thunderbolt, the purifying (sun) came forth, Uṣas left her cart.

Armed with resistless weapons, with vast power to cleave, the Vrtra-slayer whets his darts and deals fordi wounds. Bright Usas was afraid of Indra's slaughtering bolt: she went upon her way and left her chariot there.
