स इद्भो॒जो यो गृ॒हवे॒ ददा॒त्यन्न॑कामाय॒ चर॑ते कृ॒शाय॑ । अर॑मस्मै भवति॒ याम॑हूता उ॒ताप॒रीषु॑ कृणुते॒ सखा॑यम्
sa idbhojo yo gṛhave dadātyannakāmāya carate kṛśāya aramasmai bhavati yāmahūtā utāparīṣu kṛṇute sakhāyam
He is the feeder who gives food in the home for desire’s sake; he becomes slim performing rites. He becomes the sought friend at the ritual, the one who performs offerings to the gods.
He is liberal who gives to the suppliant desiring food, wandering about distressed; to him there is anample (recompense), and he contracts friendship with his adversaries.
Bounteous is he who gives unto the beggar who comes to him in want of food and feeble. Success attends him in the shout of battle. He makes a friend of him in future troubles.
