य आ॒ध्राय॑ चकमा॒नाय॑ पि॒त्वोऽन्न॑वा॒न्सन्र॑फि॒तायो॑पज॒ग्मुषे॑ । स्थि॒रं मनः॑ कृणु॒ते सेव॑ते पु॒रोतो चि॒त्स म॑र्डि॒तारं॒ न वि॑न्दते
ya ādhrāya cakamānāya pitvo'nnavānsanraphitāyopajagmuṣe sthiraṃ manaḥ kṛṇute sevate puroto citsa marḍitāraṃ na vindate
He who, given to the needy, fed the poor, sought food for the hungry—he makes the heart firm; he finds the honored place; the crushed one is not found wanting.
He who, possessed of food, hardens his heart against the feeble man craving nourishment, againstthe sufferer coming to him (for help), and pursues (his won enjoyment even) before him, that man finds noconsoler.
The man with food in store who, when the needy comes in miserable case begging for bread to eat, Hardens his heart against him-even when of old he did him service-finds not one to comfort him.
