ādindraḥ satrā taviṣīrapatyata varīyo dyāvāpṛthivī abādhata avābharaddhṛṣito vajramāyasaṃ śevaṃ mitrāya varuṇāya dāśuṣe
The primal Indra struck the foes, the strong ones fell; he protected heaven and earth. He fashioned the thunderbolt and the iron and offered them to Mitra, Varuṇa and the priests.
Indra advanced with vast (armies); he overcame with his might (his foed stationed between) heavenand earth; confident, he wielded his metal thunderbolt (to do) good to Mitra, Varuṇa, and the donor (of theoblation). when fierce he cut Vṛtra to pieces by his strength-- (Vṛtra who) obstructed the waters, and was encompassed bydarkness.
Indra hath evermore possessed surpassing power: he forced, far from each other, heaven and earth apart. He hurled impetuous down his iron thunderbolt, a joy to Varuna's and Mitra's worshipper.
