brahmacārī carati veviṣadviṣaḥ sa devānāṃ bhavatyekamaṅgam tena jāyāmanvavindadbṛhaspatiḥ somena nītāṃ juhvaṃ1 na devāḥ
He who lives a Brahmacharya life becomes the slayer of poison; he alone is among the gods. By him Brihaspati sought progeny and Soma led the rites, not the gods.
He leads the life of a Brahmacārin, even adoring all the gods; he becomes a portion of the gods;therefore, Bṛhaspati obtained his wife (formerly) brought him by Soma, as the gods receive an offering.
The Brahmacari goes engaged in duty: he is a member of the Gods' own body. Through him Brhaspati obtained his consort, as the Gods gained the ladle brought by Soma.
