na yatpurā cakṛmā kaddha nūnamṛtā vadanto anṛtaṃ rapema gandharvo apsvapyā ca yoṣā sā no nābhiḥ paramaṃ jāmi tannau
Not as they once acted—surely the immortals spoke falsehood. The Gandharvi of waters and the maid—she bore us from the navel to the supreme birth; grant us that.
(Yama speak). We have not done what was done formerly; for how can we who speak truth, utter nowthat which is untrue? Gandharva (the sun) was in the watery (firmament), and the water was his bride. She is ourcommon hence our near affinity.
Shall we do now what we ne'er did aforetime? we who spake righteously now talk impurely? Gandharva in the floods, the Dame of Waters-such is our bond, such our most lofty kinship.
