They who do not seek the calf around me do not find the immortals, foolish ones. The labored ones set their mind on exalted stead, they placed thought in the highest step of Agni's chariot.
All the immortals, and the unbewildered (Maruts), wishing for him who was (dear) to us as a son, and was everywhere around, discovered him not; oppressed with fatigue, wandering on foot, and cognizant of his acts, they stopped at the last beautiful (hiding) plural ce of Agni.
The Gods infallible all searching found not him, the dear Babe who still is round about us. Worn weary, following his track, devoted, they reached the lovely highest home of Agni.
