bṛhatsvaścandramamavadyadukthya1makṛṇvata bhiyasā rohaṇaṃ divaḥ yanmānuṣapradhanā indramūtayaḥ svarnṛṣāco maruto'madannanu
Great was the moon he made to shine; the heavens, using secret spells, wrought a terrifying ascent by day. The foremost of men lifted Indra; the golden-voiced Maruts and the host moved forward.
Through fear (of Vṛtra, they, the worshippers), recited the suitable hymn of the Bṛhat (Sāma), self-illuminating, strength-bestowing, and ascending to heaven; on which his allies, (the Maruts), combating for men, (guardians) of heaven, and vivifiers of mankind animated Indra (to destroy him).
In fear they raised the lofty self-resplendent hymn, praise giving and effectual, leading up to heaven, When Indra's helpers fighting for the good of men, the Maruts, faithful to mankind, joyed in the light.
