द्यौश्चि॑द॒स्याम॑वा॒ँ अहेः॑ स्व॒नादयो॑यवीद्भि॒यसा॒ वज्र॑ इन्द्र ते । वृ॒त्रस्य॒ यद्ब॑द्बधा॒नस्य॑ रोदसी॒ मदे॑ सु॒तस्य॒ शव॒साभि॑न॒च्छिरः॑
dyauścidasyāmavām̐ aheḥ svanādayoyavīdbhiyasā vajra indra te vṛtrasya yadbadbadhānasya rodasī made sutasya śavasābhinacchiraḥ
He called forth the resounding heavens of day and night with thunderous sound; O mighty Indra, the bolt of yours. What bound the roaring one, the slayer—its breast that flowed tears, its limbs gasped for breath.
The strong heaven was rent asunder with fear at the clamour of that Ahi, when you, Indra, was inspired by (drinking) the effused (Soma), and your thunderbolt in its vigour struck off the head of Vṛtra, the obstructor of heaven and earth.
Then Heaven himself, the mighty, at that Dragon's roar reeled back in terror when, Indra, thy thunderbolt In the wild joy of Soma had struck off with might the head of Vrtra, tyrant of the earth and heaven.
