nīcāvayā abhavadvṛtraputrendro asyā ava vadharjabhāra uttarā sūradharaḥ putra āsīddānuḥ śaye sahavatsā na dhenuḥ
From below came those born of Vrtra's son; Indra struck that hostile burden and broke it. A mighty offspring, the rear supporter, was the bull‑strong son who lay with the herd — not a mere cow.
The mother of Vṛtra was bending over her son, when Indra struck her nether part with his shaft; so the mother was above and the son underneath, and Dānu slept (with her son), like a cow with its calf.
Then humbled was the strength of Vrtra's mother: Indra hath cast his deadly bolt against her. The mother was above, the son was under and like a cow beside her calf lay Danu.
