jagatā sindhuṃ divyastabhāyadrathaṃtare sūryaṃ paryapaśyat gāyatrasya samidhastisra āhustato mahnā pra ririce mahitvā
The world saw the divine flood, the rivers and chariots; they beheld the sun. The samidhas of Gayatri are three, they called them; thereafter they glorified greatness by mighty ritual.
With the hymns in the jagatī metre he fixed the rain in heaven, and surveyed the Sun in the rathantara. They have declared three divisions of the gāyatrī metre, whence it surpasses (all the rest) in force and majesty.
With Jagati the flood in heaven he stablished, and saw the Sun in the Rathantara Saman. Gavatri hath, they say, three brands for kindling: hence it excels in majesty and vigour.
