धीरा॑सः प॒दं क॒वयो॑ नयन्ति॒ नाना॑ हृ॒दा रक्ष॑माणा अजु॒र्यम् । सिषा॑सन्तः॒ पर्य॑पश्यन्त॒ सिन्धु॑मा॒विरे॑भ्यो अभव॒त्सूर्यो॒ नॄन्
dhīrāsaḥ padaṃ kavayo nayanti nānā hṛdā rakṣamāṇā ajuryam siṣāsantaḥ paryapaśyanta sindhumāvirebhyo abhavatsūryo nṝn
Wise seers lead the path; varied hearts guard the unbroken rampart. Looking around, they beheld the floods poured forth; the sun became for men.
Experienced sages (kavayaḥ: ye vā anūcāste kavayaḥ--Aitareya Brāhmaṇa 2.2) bring the invincible (Agni), to his station (onthe altar); cherishing him in manifold (ways) in their hearts; desirous of propitiating him, they worshipthe (boon) shedding (Agni); and to those men he is manifest as the Sun.
The prudent sages lead him to his dwelling, guarding with varied skill the Ever-Youthful. Longing, they turned their eyes unto the River: to these the Sun of men was manifested.
