astāvyagniḥ śimīvadbhirarkaiḥ sāmrājyāya prataraṃ dadhānaḥ amī ca ye maghavāno vayaṃ ca mihaṃ na sūro ati niṣṭatanyuḥ
The standing Agni, like a banner, with gathered warriors set a realm for sovereignty as a snare. I and those who are generous — we are not enemies here; we do not rush away.
Agni, possessing eminent (fitness) for supreme sovereignty, has been glorified by us, with holy rites (śimī śaktiḥ: Nirukta 2.1.24), and with hymns. Let all who are presen1, as well as we ourselves, enriched (by his favour), shout aloud (the praise of Agni), as (loudly as) the sun (causes) the rain-cloud (to thunder).
With hymns of might hath Agni now been lauded, advanced to height of universal kingship. Now may these wealthy chiefs and we together spread forth as spreads the Sun above the rain-clouds.
