Borne around by priests, mothers sing forth their hymns with lifted voices, the vital beings approach and pass away. They set the place of childhood; the falcon-like protectors sit like guardians of old, watching the present.
Licking up the (verdant) vesture of the mother (of all things, earth), the rapid (Agni) proceeds with resounding existences; granting sustenance to (every) footed (creature); ever consuming (fuel), so that a blackened track follows (hispath).
Licking the mantle of the Mother, far and wide he wanders over fields with beasts that flee apace. Strengthening all that walk, licking up all around, a blackened path, forsooth, he leaves where'er he goes.
