So be it: place the strength of Agni in the household with mind; we choose that heavenly portion, Indra and Vayu we choose. Whatever of the bright ones moved by the Sun was not yet bound to the sky. Let wise thoughts flow upward; let the gods’ thoughts, the best, come forth.
May our prayers be heard, I plural ce before (me) Agni with reverence; we have recourse to his celestial might; we have recourse to Indra and to Vāyu; which doing, a new (hymn) has been addressed (by us) to the radiant navel (of the earth); and thereupon may our pious rites attain the gods; may our pious rites attain the presence of the gods.
HEARD be our prayer! In thought I honour Agni first: now straightway we elect this heavenly company, Indra and Vayu we elect. For when our latest thought is raised and on Vivasvan centred well, Then may our holy songs go forward on their way, our songs as 'twere unto the Gods.
