He, the glorious priest, the arranger, Agni, the path‑maker of the rite, stirs the sacrificial rite; making the offerings he watches all born things. From whom the fat of ghee pleased, thence the fires and the rituals were born.
That Agni, who is (the performer of) holy acts, the priest of the family, thinks in every dwelling of the imperishable sacrifice; he thinks of the sacrifice (reminded) by (its) celebration; for through such pious rite, he, the bestower of (fit) rewards, accepts all the offered oblations for (the good of) the worshipper, whence he has become as a guest, fed abundantly with butter; and the offere (of the oblations) has become the realizer of the rewards (of the worship).
That Agni, wise High-Priest, in every house takes thought for sacrifice and holy service, yea, takes thought, with mental power, for sacrifice. Disposer, he with mental power shows all things unto him who strives; Whence he was born a guest enriched with holy oil, born as Ordainer and as Priest.
