क्षेत्र॑मिव॒ वि म॑मु॒स्तेज॑नेन॒ँ एकं॒ पात्र॑मृ॒भवो॒ जेह॑मानम् । उप॑स्तुता उप॒मं नाध॑माना॒ अम॑र्त्येषु॒ श्रव॑ इ॒च्छमा॑नाः
kṣetramiva vi mamustejanenam̐ ekaṃ pātramṛbhavo jehamānam upastutā upamaṃ nādhamānā amartyeṣu śrava icchamānāḥ
As if a field they measured out one vessel for the generation of splendour — the fading ones perished. Those asking for fame compared the offering, declining the lower, desiring renown among mortals.
Lauded by the bystanders, the Ṛbhus, with a sharp weapon, meted outt the single sacrificial ladle, like a field (measured by a rod), soliciting the best (libations) and desiring (to participate of) sacrificial food amongs thte gods.
The Rbhus, with a rod measured, as 'twere a field, the single sacrificial chalice. wide of mouth, Lauded of all who saw, praying for what is best, desiring glorious fame among Immortal Gods.
