ahaṃ so asmi yaḥ purā sute vadāmi kāni cit taṃ mā vyantyādhyo3 vṛko na tṛṣṇajaṃ mṛgaṃ vittaṃ me asya rodasī
I am he who formerly declared words to his son; speak now somehow. May the wolf not snatch away the thirsty-born deer — grant me this wealth of hers, O Rodaśī.
I am he, Gods, who formerly recited (your praise) when the libation was poured out; yet sorrows assail me, like a wolf (that falls upon) a thirsty deer. Heaven and earth, be conscious of this (my affliction).
1 am the man who sang of old full many a laud when Soma flowed. Yet torturing cares consume me as the wolf assails the thirsty deer. Mark this my woe, ye Earth and Heaven.
