Sūta said: The morning twilight, night, day and evening twilight, these four are the bodies of Brahmā. They are called ‘Āmbhāṃsi’. The root bhā means to ‘shine’. The word Ambhāṃsi is traced by the learned to this root. After creating these, Prajāpati created Devas, human beings, Dānavas and Pitṛs from his body. Thereafter he foresook that body which turned into moonlight and assumed another form characterized by passion and darkness. The lord created other beings during the night; these beings were overwhelmed with hunger.
