वेदं वेदौ तथा वेदान वेदान वा चतुरो द्विजाः। अधीत्य चाधिगम्यार्थं ततः स्नायाद द्विजोत्तमः।।
vedaṃ vedau tathā vedān vedān vā caturo dvijāḥ| adhītya cādhigamyārthaṃ tataḥ snāyād dvijottamaḥ||
The stage of householder being the main stay of the subsistence of other asramas (stages) in life, has been considered as the best Asrama at least since the old Sutra period (Gautama III. 3, Manu III. 77-78, Mbh.
