'Tām yogabuddhim āha — triguṇya-viṣayā' — he explains the yoga-mind as being occupied with objects of the three guṇas. Because other passages of the Vedas are indirect, and the three guṇas are connected with heaven and such, the meaning appears to be concerned with those effects. The Veda is said to speak indirectly; therefore do not be misled about the immediate purport. The Vedas, Rāmāyaṇa and Purāṇas sing of Viṣṇu from beginning to middle to end; all the Vedas contain that word. The Vedas are indeed the root of dharma, and recollection and conduct of those who know them — as quoted in Smṛti and other sources — assert Viṣṇu-pervasiveness and thus prescribe what is appropriate and what is contrary.
