Here the word ‘mantra‑letter’ is also present: ‘He does not take birth.’ Nor does the Lord, like one who merely attains knowledge, become born. This is corroborated by scriptural statements about time and circumstance: from place and time and condition this state arises; the undiminished one is the conscious self, etc., established by śruti and smṛti. Why? Because the Lord is characteristically unbegun and sovereign. He is eternally of one form. The Purāṇa says formerly He wore a body. Even so, he is not destroyed when the body is destroyed.
