।।18.14 -- 18.15।।
(Same as 18.14) The substratum is the body etc. The doer is Vishnu — he is declared the cause of all actions; the jiva's non-doership is also proven. The instruments are the sense-organs. Chestas (efforts) and kriyas (actions) — from manual and other actions arise sacrificial acts, etc. Even mental practices like dhyana are caused as manasic chesta. Earlier efforts too function as causes by virtue of their samskara. There is also the unseen (daiva). Thus the received teaching says: ‘The body, Brahman, the organs, and actions — and the unseen, the fifth cause of action.’
