📜 Traditional Commentaryswaminarayan.faith commentaryShikshapatriGeneral Dharmas for all Followers, verse 22

None shall ever accept prasad of a deity to whom offering of meat and/or liquor–wine are offered and /or before whom goats and/or other living beings are sacrificed. We have already spoken much about the subject of Ahimsa and so Shatanand has not gone into too much further detail. Shree Hari asks us not to partake in offerings of alcohol or flesh - Suramaasnivedanam. Vishnudharma explains, ‘One must never partake in foods from those who are intent on Himsa and who themselves partake in meat and intoxicants. Vaishnavas are forbidden especially as such foods destroy one’s Satva Guna (righteous qualities). Shrimad Bhagwat further explains, ‘Impure (Aetho) foods, non-vegetarian foods, food prepared by somebody in an angry mood, food from a low born and food even seen by a woman during her menses, should never be consumed,’ as such food is considered impure and destructive physically and mentally. Therefore foods such as alcohol and meat are considered extremely foul and should never be accepted even if it is a part of an offering to a deity.
