Lingashtakam

लिङ्गाष्टकम्

Lingashtakam is a revered eight-verse hymn in praise of the Shiva Linga. It glorifies the Linga as the destroyer of sin, ego, suffering, and rebirth, and is widely recited in Shiva worship, especially during Pradosha and Mahashivaratri.

लिंगाष्टकम् भगवान शिव के लिङ्गस्वरूप की स्तुति करने वाला अत्यंत पूजनीय अष्टक है। इसमें शिवलिङ्ग को पाप, अहंकार, दुःख और पुनर्जन्म का नाश करने वाला बताया गया है, और इसका पाठ शिवपूजन में विशेष रूप से किया जाता है।

Verse 1

ब्रह्ममुरारिसुरार्चितलिङ्गं निर्मलभासितशोभितलिङ्गम् । जन्मजदुःखविनाशकलिङ्गं तत्प्रणमामि सदाशिवलिङ्गम् ॥

Translation

I bow to the eternal Shiva Linga, worshipped by Brahma, Vishnu, and the gods, resplendent with pure radiance, and the destroyer of the sorrows born of worldly existence.

Verse 2

देवमुनिप्रवरार्चितलिङ्गं कामदहनकरुणाकरलिङ्गम् । रावणदर्पविनाशकलिङ्गं तत्प्रणमामि सदाशिवलिङ्गम् ॥

Translation

I bow to the eternal Shiva Linga, worshipped by the foremost gods and sages, destroyer of lust, embodiment of compassion, and the one who shattered Ravana's pride.

Verse 3

सर्वसुगन्धिसुलेपितलिङ्गं बुद्धिविवर्धनकारणलिङ्गम् । सिद्धसुरासुरवन्दितलिङ्गं तत्प्रणमामि सदाशिवलिङ्गम् ॥

Translation

I bow to the eternal Shiva Linga, anointed with every sacred fragrance, the source of growing wisdom, and revered by siddhas, gods, and asuras alike.

Verse 4

कनकमहामणिभूषितलिङ्गं फणिपतिवेष्टितशोभितलिङ्गम् । दक्षसुयज्ञविनाशकलिङ्गं तत्प्रणमामि सदाशिवलिङ्गम् ॥

Translation

I bow to the eternal Shiva Linga, adorned with gold and precious jewels, beautified by the serpent king, and the destroyer of Daksha's sacrificial pride.

Verse 5

कुङ्कुमचन्दनलेपितलिङ्गं पङ्कजहारसुशोभितलिङ्गम् । सञ्चितपापविनाशकलिङ्गं तत्प्रणमामि सदाशिवलिङ्गम् ॥

Translation

I bow to the eternal Shiva Linga, anointed with saffron and sandal paste, beautified with lotus garlands, and the destroyer of accumulated sins.

Verse 6

देवगणार्चितसेवितलिङ्गं भावैर्भक्तिभिरेव च लिङ्गम् । दिनकरकोटिप्रभाकरलिङ्गं तत्प्रणमामि सदाशिवलिङ्गम् ॥

Translation

I bow to the eternal Shiva Linga, worshipped by hosts of gods, served with pure devotion, and shining with the brilliance of millions of suns.

Verse 7

अष्टदलोपरिवेष्टितलिङ्गं सर्वसमुद्भवकारणलिङ्गम् । अष्टदरिद्रविनाशकलिङ्गं तत्प्रणमामि सदाशिवलिङ्गम् ॥

Translation

I bow to the eternal Shiva Linga, enshrined within the eight-petalled lotus, the source of all creation, and the destroyer of the eight forms of poverty.

Verse 8

सुरगुरुसुरवरपूजितलिङ्गं सुरवनपुष्पसदार्चितलिङ्गम् । परमपदं परमात्मकलिङ्गं तत्प्रणमामि सदाशिवलिङ्गम् ॥

Translation

I bow to the eternal Shiva Linga, worshipped by the guru of the gods and the greatest celestials, forever adored with heavenly flowers, and itself the supreme state, the supreme Self.

Phala Shruti

लिङ्गाष्टकमिदं पुण्यं यः पठेच्छिवसन्निधौ । शिवलोकमवाप्नोति शिवेन सह मोदते ॥

Translation

Whoever recites this sacred Lingashtakam in the presence of Shiva attains Shiva's abode and rejoices there in union with Shiva.
