हनुमान चालीसा

Hanuman Chalisa is the celebrated forty-verse hymn composed by Goswami Tulsidas in praise of Shri Hanuman. Recited across Hindu traditions, it glorifies Hanuman's strength, wisdom, devotion to Lord Rama, and his power to remove fear, suffering, and obstacles.

हनुमान चालीसा गोस्वामी तुलसीदास द्वारा रचित श्री हनुमान की प्रसिद्ध चालीस चौपाइयों की स्तुति है। यह श्री हनुमान के बल, बुद्धि, श्रीरामभक्ति, निर्भयता और संकट-नाशक स्वरूप का गान करती है।

Doha 1

श्रीगुरु चरन सरोज रज, निज मन मुकुर सुधारि । बरनऊँ रघुवर बिमल जसु, जो दायक फल चारि ॥

Translation

Having purified the mirror of my mind with the dust of my Guru's lotus feet, I describe the stainless glory of Lord Rama, which bestows the four fruits of life.

Doha 2

बुद्धिहीन तनु जानिके, सुमिरौं पवन-कुमार । बल बुद्धि विद्या देहु मोहिं, हरहु कलेस बिकार ॥

Translation

Knowing myself to be of limited understanding, I remember you, O son of the Wind. Grant me strength, wisdom, and knowledge, and remove my sorrows and faults.

Chaupai 1

जय हनुमान ज्ञान गुण सागर । जय कपीस तिहुँ लोक उजागर ॥

Translation

Victory to Hanuman, the ocean of wisdom and virtue. Victory to the lord of the vanaras, who is illustrious in all the three worlds.

Chaupai 2

राम दूत अतुलित बल धामा । अंजनि-पुत्र पवनसुत नामा ॥

Translation

You are the messenger of Rama and the abode of incomparable strength. You are known as the son of Anjani and the Wind-god.

Chaupai 3

महाबीर बिक्रम बजरंगी । कुमति निवार सुमति के संगी ॥

Translation

You are the great hero, supremely valiant and strong as the thunderbolt. You remove evil intellect and are the companion of noble wisdom.

Chaupai 4

कंचन बरन बिराज सुबेसा । कानन कुण्डल कुंचित केसा ॥

Translation

Your complexion shines like gold, and you are adorned in handsome attire. You wear earrings and have beautiful curly hair.

Chaupai 5

हाथ वज्र औ ध्वजा बिराजै । काँधे मूँज जनेऊ साजै ॥

Translation

A thunderbolt and a banner shine in your hands, and the sacred thread of munja grass adorns your shoulder.

Chaupai 6

शंकर सुवन केसरी नंदन । तेज प्रताप महा जग वंदन ॥

Translation

You are the emanation of Shankara and the son of Kesari. Your splendor and glory are so great that the whole world reveres you.

Chaupai 7

विद्यावान गुनी अति चातुर । राम काज करिबे को आतुर ॥

Translation

You are learned, virtuous, and exceedingly intelligent. You are always eager to carry out the work of Lord Rama.

Chaupai 8

प्रभु चरित्र सुनिबे को रसिया । राम लखन सीता मन बसिया ॥

Translation

You delight in hearing the Lord's sacred deeds, and Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita dwell constantly in your heart.

Chaupai 9

सूक्ष्म रूप धरि सियहिं दिखावा । बिकट रूप धरि लंक जरावा ॥

Translation

You assumed a subtle form to appear before Sita, and then a fierce form to burn down Lanka.

Chaupai 10

भीम रूप धरि असुर सँहारे । रामचन्द्र के काज सँवारे ॥

Translation

Assuming a formidable form, you slew demons and skillfully accomplished the tasks of Lord Rama.

Chaupai 11

लाय सजीवन लखन जियाए । श्रीरघुबीर हरषि उर लाए ॥

Translation

You brought the Sanjivani herb and revived Lakshmana. Filled with joy, Shri Rama embraced you to his heart.

Chaupai 12

रघुपति कीन्ही बहुत बड़ाई । तुम मम प्रिय भरतहि सम भाई ॥

Translation

Lord Rama greatly praised you and said, 'You are as dear to me as my brother Bharata.'

Chaupai 13

सहस बदन तुम्हरो जस गावैं । अस कहि श्रीपति कण्ठ लगावैं ॥

Translation

Shri Rama said that even a thousand mouths would sing your glory, and saying so, he embraced you.

Chaupai 14

सनकादिक ब्रह्मादि मुनीसा । नारद सारद सहित अहीसा ॥

Translation

Sanaka and the other sages, Brahma and the great seers, Narada, Sarasvati, and Shesha all sing of your greatness.

Chaupai 15

जम कुबेर दिगपाल जहाँ ते । कवि कोविद कहि सके कहाँ ते ॥

Translation

Even Yama, Kubera, the guardians of the directions, poets, and learned scholars cannot fully describe your glory.

Chaupai 16

तुम उपकार सुग्रीवहिं कीन्हा । राम मिलाय राज पद दीन्हा ॥

Translation

You rendered a great service to Sugriva by bringing him to Rama, through whom he regained his royal throne.

Chaupai 17

तुम्हरो मंत्र विभीषण माना । लंकेश्वर भए सब जग जाना ॥

Translation

Vibhishana followed your counsel and, as the whole world knows, became the lord of Lanka.

Chaupai 18

जुग सहस्र जोजन पर भानू । लील्यो ताहि मधुर फल जानू ॥

Translation

The sun, though thousands of yojanas away, you once swallowed, mistaking it for a sweet fruit.

Chaupai 19

प्रभु मुद्रिका मेलि मुख माहीं । जलधि लाँघि गए अचरज नाहीं ॥

Translation

With the Lord's ring placed in your mouth, you crossed the ocean; in truth, this is no wonder for one like you.

Chaupai 20

दुर्गम काज जगत के जेते । सुगम अनुग्रह तुम्हरे तेते ॥

Translation

All difficult tasks of the world become easy through your grace.

Chaupai 21

राम दुआरे तुम रखवारे । होत न आज्ञा बिनु पैसारे ॥

Translation

You stand guard at Rama's door; no one may enter without your permission.

Chaupai 22

सब सुख लहै तुम्हारी सरना । तुम रक्षक काहू को डर ना ॥

Translation

Whoever takes refuge in you obtains every happiness. When you are the protector, there is nothing to fear.

Chaupai 23

आपन तेज सम्हारो आपै । तीनों लोक हाँक ते काँपै ॥

Translation

You alone can contain your own immense power; the three worlds tremble at your mighty roar.

Chaupai 24

भूत पिशाच निकट नहिं आवै । महाबीर जब नाम सुनावै ॥

Translation

Ghosts and evil beings do not come near when the name of the great hero Hanuman is heard.

Chaupai 25

नासै रोग हरै सब पीरा । जपत निरंतर हनुमत बीरा ॥

Translation

Constant repetition of the heroic Hanuman's name destroys disease and removes all suffering.

Chaupai 26

संकट ते हनुमान छुड़ावै । मन क्रम वचन ध्यान जो लावै ॥

Translation

Hanuman frees one from distress when one meditates on him with mind, action, and speech aligned in devotion.

Chaupai 27

सब पर राम तपस्वी राजा । तिन के काज सकल तुम साजा ॥

Translation

Rama, the ascetic king, is supreme over all, and you skillfully carried out all of his tasks.

Chaupai 28

और मनोरथ जो कोई लावै । सोइ अमित जीवन फल पावै ॥

Translation

Whoever brings any heartfelt wish before you obtains abundant fruits in life.

Chaupai 29

चारों जुग परताप तुम्हारा । है परसिद्ध जगत उजियारा ॥

Translation

Your glory shines through all four ages, and your fame illumines the world everywhere.

Chaupai 30

साधु संत के तुम रखवारे । असुर निकंदन राम दुलारे ॥

Translation

You are the protector of sages and saints, the destroyer of demons, and the beloved of Rama.

Chaupai 31

अष्ट सिद्धि नव निधि के दाता । अस बर दीन जानकी माता ॥

Translation

Mother Janaki granted you the boon that you may bestow the eight siddhis and the nine treasures.

Chaupai 32

राम रसायन तुम्हरे पासा । सदा रहो रघुपति के दासा ॥

Translation

The nectar of devotion to Rama is with you, and you ever remain the humble servant of Lord Rama.

Chaupai 33

तुम्हरे भजन राम को पावै । जनम जनम के दुख बिसरावै ॥

Translation

Through devotion to you, one attains Rama and forgets the sorrows accumulated over many births.

Chaupai 34

अंत काल रघुबर पुर जाई । जहाँ जन्म हरि-भक्त कहाई ॥

Translation

At life's end, such a devotee goes to Rama's abode, and if reborn, is born as a devotee of Hari.

Chaupai 35

और देवता चित्त न धरई । हनुमत सेइ सर्व सुख करई ॥

Translation

One need not turn the mind elsewhere; by serving Hanuman alone, all happiness is attained.

Chaupai 36

संकट कटै मिटै सब पीरा । जो सुमिरै हनुमत बलबीरा ॥

Translation

All troubles vanish and every pain is removed for the one who remembers mighty Hanuman with devotion.

Chaupai 37

जय जय जय हनुमान गोसाईं । कृपा करहु गुरुदेव की नाईं ॥

Translation

Victory, victory, victory to Lord Hanuman. Please bestow your grace, just as a compassionate Guru does.

Chaupai 38

जो सत बार पाठ कर कोई । छूटहि बंदि महा सुख होई ॥

Translation

Whoever recites this one hundred times is freed from bondage and attains great happiness.

Chaupai 39

जो यह पढ़ै हनुमान चालीसा । होय सिद्धि साखी गौरीसा ॥

Translation

Whoever reads this Hanuman Chalisa attains success; Lord Shiva himself is the witness to this truth.

Chaupai 40

तुलसीदास सदा हरि चेरा । कीजै नाथ हृदय महँ डेरा ॥

Translation

Tulsidas is forever the servant of Hari; O Lord, please make your abode in my heart.

Doha 3

पवनतनय संकट हरन, मंगल मूरति रूप । राम लखन सीता सहित, हृदय बसहु सुर भूप ॥

Translation

O son of the Wind, remover of distress, embodiment of auspiciousness, dwell in my heart together with Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita.
