Shakrādayaḥ Suragaṇāḥ Stuti (Deva-Kṛta Devī Stuti)

The Shakrādayaḥ Suragaṇāḥ Stuti — also known as the Deva-Kṛta Devī Stuti or Shakra-Stuti — is the magnificent hymn sung by Indra (Shakra) and all the gods after Goddess Durga defeats the great demon Mahishasura and his army at the end of Chapter 3 of the Devi Mahatmya. Overcome with joy and gratitude, the gods bow with heads bent low, their bodies thrilling with rapture, and praise Devi as the ultimate reality — the primordial Prakriti, the seed of the universe, beyond even Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva in understanding. It is one of the most profound and beautiful hymns in the entire Shakta canon.

That Goddess by whom this entire world is pervaded through Her own power — whose very form is the gathered might of all the gods in full — that Ambika, worshipped by all gods and great sages: we bow to Her in devotion. May She bestow auspiciousness upon us.

Verse 3

That Chandika whose incomparable glory and power even Vishnu (Ananta), Brahma and Shiva are incapable of fully describing — may She turn Her mind toward protecting all the worlds and destroying all inauspiciousness and fear.

She who is Lakshmi herself in the homes of the virtuous, and misfortune in the homes of the wicked; the intellect in the hearts of the learned, the faith of the righteous, the modesty of those born of noble families — O Devi, we bow to You: protect the universe.

Verse 5

What can we say of this inconceivable form of Yours? What of the immense valour that brings destruction to the demons? What of the wondrous deeds You have performed in battle — exceeding all the gods and demons alike? Words fail us, O Devi.

Verse 6
