आश्मन्नू उ र्जं पर्वते शिश्रियाणामद्भ्यऽ ओषधीभ्यो वनस्पतिभ्योऽअधि सम्भृतं पयः। तां नऽइषमू उ र्जं धत्त मरुतः संरराणाऽअश्मं न स्ते क्षू उ न-मयि तऽऊ उ र्ग्यं द्विष्मस्तं ते शुगृच्छतु।
āśmannū u rja≈ parvate śiśriyāṇāmadbhya' oṣadhībhyo vanaspatibhyo'adhi sambhṛta≈ payaḥ. Tā≈ na'iṣamū u rja≈ dhatta marutaḥ sa≈rarāṇā'aśma| n ste kṣū u n-mayi ta'ū u rgya≈ dviṣmasta≈ te śugṛcchatu.
O Marut (wind-god), place this stone-born foam from the mountain, sprung from icy herbs and trees, the collected water. Do not let the winds cast it away; may it not become fuel for hunger — let these hostile ones be repulsed by you.

īmā me'agna'iṣṭakā dhenavaḥ santvekā ca daśa ca daśa ca śata≈ ca śata≈ ca sahasra≈ ca sahasra≈ cāyuta≈ cāyuta≈ ca niyuta≈ ca niyuta≈ ca prayuta≈ cārbuda≈ ca nyarbuda≈
These are my desired cows for Agni: one cow, and also ten and ten, a hundred and a hundred, a thousand and a thousand, ten-thousand and ten-thousand, hundred-thousand and hundred-thousand, million and sub-millions.

Rtava stha'ṛtāvṛdha'ṛtuṣṭhā stha'ṛtāvṛdhaḥ. Ghṛtaścyuto madhuścyuto virājo nāma kāmadughā'akṣīyamāṇāḥ.
Established are the seasons, increased are the seasons, the clarified butter flows forth, honey flows forth; radiance named Viraja — desire-milks, inexhaustible.

From the ocean you extend, O Agni; you move around. O Fire, be auspicious to us.

From the snow you extend, O Agni; you move around. O Fire, be auspicious to us.

ऊप ज्मन्नुप वेतसेऽ व तर नदीष्वा। आग्ने पित्तमपामसि मण्डूउकि ताभिरा गहि सेमं नो यज्ञं पावकवर्णंम शिवं कृधि।
ūpa jmannupa vetase' va tara nadīṣvā. āgne pittamapāmasi maṇŒūuki tābhirā gahi sema≈ no yaj¤a≈ pāvakavarṇa|m śiva≈ kṛdhi.
You move near the waters and rivers. O Agni, you remove fever and bile; with tender hands take them; accept our oblation — make our sacrifice radiant, auspicious.

आपामिदं न्ययनंम समुद्रस्य निवेशनम। आन्यां न स्तेऽअस्मत्तपन्तु हेतयः पावकोऽ अस्मभ्यंम शिवो भव।
āpāmida≈ nyayana|m samudrasya niveśanam. ānyā| n ste'asmattapantu hetayaḥ pāvako' asmabhya|m śivo bhava.
This is the channel of the waters, the abode of the ocean. Let no other cause scorch us; O Fire, be auspicious to us.

O Agni, with shining, with slow, divine tongue: proclaim the gods, protectors, and guardians.

स नाः पावक दीदिवोऽग्ने देवांनऽ इहावह। ऊप यज्ञंम हविश्च नः।
Sa nāḥ pāvaka dīdivo'gne devā|n' ihāvaha. ūpa yaj¤a|m haviśca naḥ.
May that radiant Agni carry our gods hither. Accept our sacrifice and oblation for us.

Namaste harase śociṣe namaste'astvarciṣe. ānyā| n ste asmattapantu hetayaḥ pāvako' asmabhyaṃ śivo bhava.
Salutations to you who bestow and who grieve; salutations to you who are shining. Let no other cause scorch us; O Fire, be auspicious to us.

Nṛṣade veŒ apsuṣade veŒ barhiṣade veŒ vanasade veṭ svarvide veṭ.
O hunters, O wild-ones, O Bṛhaspati’s folk, O forest-people, O sky-knowledgeable ones.
Yajurveda 17.13 — Prana Devata

ये देवा देवानां यजंनिया यजंनियानाम संवत्सरीणमुप भागमासते। आहुतादो हविषो यज्ञे ऽअस्मिन्त्स्वयं पिबन्तु मधुनो घृतस्य।
Ye devā devānā≈ yaj|niyā yaj|niyānām ` sa≈vatsarīṇamupa bhāgamāsate. āhutādo haviṣo yaj¤e 'asmintsvaya≈ pibantu madhuno ghṛtasya.
Those gods who take part in the yearly rites of men and the sacrificial priests — let them drink here themselves the clarified butter of the oblations offered in this sacrifice.

ये देवा देवेष्वधि देवत्वमायन ये ब्रह्मणः पुरऽएतारोऽ अस्य। येभ्यो नऽऋते पवते धाम किञ्चन न ते दिवो न पृथिव्या ऽअधि स्नुषु।
Ye devā deveṣvadhi devatvamāyan ye brahmaṇaḥ pura'etāro' asya. Yebhyo na'ṛte pavate dhāma ki¤cana na te divo na pṛthivyā 'adhi snuṣu.
Those gods who attained godhood over the gods, who are the ancient guardians of this Brahman’s realm — by whom the realm was not perverted — they are not of the sky nor of the earth beneath the heavens.

प्राणदाऽअपानदा व्यानदा वर्चोदा वरिवोदाः। आन्यां न स्तेऽअस्मत्तपन्तु हेतयः पावकोऽ अस्मभ्यंम शिवो भव।
Prāṇadā'apānadā vyānadā varcodā varivodāḥ. ānyā| n ste'asmattapantu hetayaḥ pāvako' asmabhya|m śivo bhava.
Giver of prana, giver of apana, giver of vyana, source of splendor, bestower of floods: let other causes not scorch us; O Agni, be auspicious to us.

आग्निस्तिग्मेन शोचिषा यासद्विश्वं न्यत्रिणम। आग्निर्नो वनते रयिम।
āgnistigmena śociṣā yāsadviśva≈ nyatriṇam. āgnirno vanate rayim.
Agni, by thy purification and by penance containing radiance, permeate the whole world; may Agni bestow upon us wealth.

विश्वतश्चक्षुर्त विश्वतोमुखो विश्वतोबाहुरुत विश्वतस्पात। सं बाहुभ्यां धमति सं पतत्रैर्द्यावाभूउमी जनयन देवऽएकः।
Viśvataścakṣurta viśvatomukho viśvatobāhuruta viśvataspāt. Sa≈ bāhubhyā≈ dhamati sa≈ patatrairdyāvābhūumī janayan deva'ekaḥ.
He is eyes to the universe, mouth to the universe, arms to the universe, feet to the universe. With those very arms he upholds and with those fathers created Heaven and Earth; the one deity generated them.

किंम्स्विद्वनं कऽउ स वृक्षऽआस यतो द्यावापृथिवीनिष्टतक्षुः। मनीषिणो मनसा पृच्छतेदु तद्यद अध्यतिष्ठद भुवनानि धारयन।
Ki|msvidvana≈ ka'u sa vṛkṣa'āsa yato dyāvāpṛthivīniṣṭatakṣuḥ. Manīṣiṇo manasā pṛcchatedu tadyad adhyatiṣṭhad bhuvanāni dhārayan.
What is that forest, what is that tree, whence were Heaven and Earth fixed in their places? The sages inquire in mind: tell what upholds the worlds.

विश्वकर्मन हविषा वावृधानः स्वयं यजस्व पृथिवीमुत द्याम। मुह्यन्त्वन्येऽ अभितः सपत्नाऽइहास्माकं मघवा सूउरिरस्तु।
Viśvakarman haviṣā vāvṛdhānaḥ svaya≈ yajasva pṛthivīmuta dyām. Muhyantvanye' abhitaḥ sapatnā'ihāsmāka≈ maghavā sūurirastu.
Viśvakarman, moved by the rite, sacrifice the Earth and the Heaven yourself. May our enemies be confounded; may the mighty, generous, and valiant be our strength.

वाचस्पतिं विश्वकर्माणमूउतये मनोजुवं वाजेऽअद्या हुवेम। स नो विश्वानि हवनानि जाषद विश्वशम्भूउरवसे साधुकर्मा।
Vācaspati≈ viśvakarmāṇamūutaye manojuva≈ vāje'adyā huvema. Sa no viśvāni havanāni jāṣad viśvaśambhūuravase sādhukarmā.
We invoke Vācaspati, the maker of all works, resplendent of mind; today we call him with oblation. May he bring us all the sacred offerings; may righteous action, source of universal prosperity, prosper us.

विश्वकर्मन हविषा वर्धनेन त्रातारमिन्द्रमकृणोरवध्यम। तस्मै विशः समनमन्त पूउर्वीरयमुग्रो विहव्यो यथाऽ सत।
Viśvakarman haviṣā vardhanena trātāramindramakṛṇoravadhyam. Tasmai viśaḥ samanamanta pūurvīrayamugro vihavyo yathā' sat.
Viśvakarman, increasing by the oblation, became saviour and made Indra invincible. For him the violent and ancient mights shone forth like true heroes.

चक्षुषः पिता मनसा हि धीरो घृतमेनेऽ अजनन्नम्नमाने। यदेदन्ता अददृहन्त पूउर्वऽआदिद द्यावापृथिवी अप्रथेताम।
Cakṣuṣaḥ pitā manasā hi dhīro ghṛtamene' ajanannamnamāne. Yadedantā adadṛhanta pūurva'ādid dyāvāpṛthivī aprathetām.
Father of the eyes, wise in mind, having clarified with ghee, he gave birth not to ignorance but to famed praise. When the ancient ones bit and held fast, Heaven and Earth did not fail.

विश्वकर्मा विमनाऽआद्विहाया धाता विधाता परमोत सन्दृक। तेषामिष्टानि समिषा मदन्ति यत्रा सप्तऽ ऋषीन परऽ एकमाहुः।
Viśvakarmā vimanā'ādvihāyā dhātā vidhātā paramota sandṛk. Teṣāmiṣṭāni samiṣā madanti yatrā sapta' ṛṣīn para' ekamāhuḥ.
Viśvakarman, withdrawing his mind, the establisher, creator, highest seer—when their desires and offerings delight, there the seven sages declare one beyond them.

यो नः पिता जनिता यो विधाता धामानि वेद भुवनानि विश्वा। यो देवानां नामधाऽएकऽएव तंम सम्प्रश्नं भुवना यन्त्यन्या।
Yo naḥ pitā janitā yo vidhātā dhāmāni veda bhuvanāni viśvā. Yo devānā≈ nāmadhā'eka'eva ta|m sampraśna≈ bhuvanā yantyanyā.
He who is our father, begetter, ordainer, who knows the abodes and all worlds; he who alone is the namer of the gods—into him the worlds enter when questioned.

तऽआयजन्त द्रवीणंम समस्माऽऋषयः पूउर्वे जरितारो न भूउना। आसूउर्ते सूउर्ते रजसि निषत्ते ये भूउतानि समकृण्वन्निमानि।
Ta'āyajanta dravīṇa|m samasmā'ṛṣayaḥ pūurve jaritāro na bhūunā. āsūurte sūurte rajasi niṣatte ye bhūutāni samakṛṇvannimāni.
They offered treasures together; the ancient poets of old, not being mortals, sang forth. They arose, shone, set in splendour; those who the creatures had established made these offerings alike.

परो दिवा परऽएना पृथिव्या परो देवेभिरसुरैर्यदस्ति। कंम्स्विद गर्भं प्रथमं दध्रऽआपो यत्र देवाः समपश्यन्त पूउर्वे।
Paro divā para'enā pṛthivyā paro devebhirasurairyadasti. Ka|msvid garbha≈ prathama≈ dadhra'āpo yatra devāḥ samapaśyanta pūurve.
Beyond is the day, beyond is this earth, beyond are the gods and the asuras—what was that womb first held? Which water first sustained it where the gods in former times beheld together?

तमिद गर्भं प्रथमं दध्रऽआपो यत्र देवाः समगच्छन्त विश्वे। आजस्य नाभावध्येकमर्पितं यस्मिन विश्वानि भुवनानि तस्थुः।
Tamid garbha≈ prathama≈ dadhra'āpo yatra devāḥ samagacchanta viśve. ājasya nābhāvadhyekamarpita≈ yasmin viśvāni bhuvanāni tasthuḥ.
That same womb the waters first upheld where all the gods assembled. Into the navel of the day's one was offered; in that the worlds were set.
Yajurveda 17.32 — Vishvakarma Devata

विश्वकर्मा ह्यजनिष्ट देवऽआदिद्गन्धर्वोऽ अभवद द्वितीयः। तृतीयः पिता जनितौषधीनामपां गर्भं व्यदधात पुरुत्रा।
Viśvakarmā hyajaniṣṭa deva'ādidgandharvo' abhavad dvitīyaḥ. Tṛtīyaḥ pitā janitauṣadhīnāmapā≈ garbha≈ vyadadhāt purutrā.
Viśvakarman first engendered the gods; from him next arose the Gandharva as second. Third was the father who begot medicinal waters—he placed the embryo of waters, even progeny.

आशुः शिशानो वृषभो न भीमो घनाघनः क्षोभणश्चर्षणीनाम। संक्रन्दनोऽनिमिषऽ एकवीरः शतंम सेनाऽअजयत साकमिन्द्रः।
Åśuḥ śiśāno vṛṣabho na bhīmo ghanāghanaḥ kṣobhaṇaścarṣaṇīnām. Sa≈krandano'nimiṣa' ekavīraḥ śata|m senā'ajayat sākamindraḥ.
Swift were the infants, the bull not dreadful, the dense cloud, the disturber of churnings and grindings. With a single-eyed warlike cry the hero won a hundred thousands of hosts together with Indra.

संक्रन्दनेनानिमिषेण जिष्णुना युत्कारेण दुश्च्यवनेन धृष्णुना। तदिन्द्रेण जयत तत्सहध्वं युधो नर इषुहस्तेन वृष्णा।
Sa≈krandanenānimiṣeṇa jiṣṇunā yutkāreṇa duścyavanena dhṛṣṇunā. Tadindreṇa jayata tatsahadhva≈ yudho nara iṣuhastena vṛṣṇā.
By the clash, the instant hero, the victorious, with loud cry and mighty onset he subdued Dushyavana. By Indra's might he conquered; together with allies they fought with spear and chariot.

बृहस्पते परि दीया रथेन रक्षोहा ऽमित्रांनऽ अपबाधमानः। प्रभञ्जन्त्सेनाः प्रमृणो युधा जयन्नस्माकमेध्यविता रथानाम।
Bṛhaspate pari dīyā rathena rakṣohā 'mitrā|n' apabādhamānaḥ. Prabha¤jantsenāḥ pramṛṇo yudhā jayannasmākamedhyavitā rathānām.
Bṛhaspati, encircling with the bright chariot, protected from foes, striking them down. Armies were broken, dying in battle; our charioteers, leaders of chariots, won.

बलविज्ञायः स्थविरः प्रवीरः सहस्वान वाजी सहमनऽ उग्रः। आभिवीरोऽअभिसत्वा सहोजा जैत्रमिन्द्र रथमातिष्ठ गोवित।
Balavij¤āyaḥ sthaviraḥ pravīraḥ sahasvān vājī sahamana' ugraḥ. ābhivīro'abhisatvā sahojā jaitramindra rathamātiṣṭha govit.
Knowing their strength, the old and brave ones, the swift in might, horses equal in speed, the fierce restrained. Brave champions, armed together, being born of the same stock, advance, O Indra, stand in the chariot, O charioteer.

गोत्रभिदं गोविदं वज्रबाहुं जयन्तमज्म प्रमृणन्तमोजसा। ईमंम सजाताऽअनु वीरयध्वमिन्द्रं म सखायोऽअनु सं म रभध्वम।
Gotrabhida≈ govida≈ vajrabāhu≈ jayantamajma pramṛṇantamojasā. īma|m sajātā'anu vīrayadhvamindra| m sakhāyo'anu sa| m rabhadhvam.
Take up the clans, O protector of kine, O vajra-armed, victorious with mighty strength, slaying foes with vigour. O comrades, follow Indra in heroic might; O friends, advance together with him.

आभि गोत्राणि सहसा गाहमानोऽदयो वीरः शतमन्युरिन्द्रः। दुश्च्यवनः पृतनाषाडयुध्योऽस्माकंम सेना अवतु प्र युत्सु।
ābhi gotrāṇi sahasā gāhamāno'dayo vīraḥ śatamanyurindraḥ. Duścyavanaḥ pṛtanāṣāŒayudhyo'smāka|m senā avatu pra yutsu.
Suddenly seizing the clans, the hero, a hundred-armed Indra, with fierce Dushyavana attacking—may he protect our army in the fight, provide victory to those who endeavor.

ईन्द्रस्य वृष्णो वरुणस्य राज्ञऽ आदित्यानां मरुतां म शर्द्ध उग्रम। महामनसां भुवनच्यवानां घोषो देवानां जयतामुदस्थात।
īndrasya Vṛṣṇo varuṇasya rāj¤a' ādityānā≈ marutā| m śarddha ugram. Mahāmanasā≈ bhuvanacyavānā≈ ghoṣo devānā≈ jayatāmudasthāt.
May the mighty Indra’s bulls and Varuṇa’s sovereign, the Ādityas and Maruts, grant fierce wealth. May the great-minded, world-renewing cry of the gods arise and prevail.

ऊद्धर्षय मघवन्नायुधान्युत्सत्वनां मामकानां मनांन्सि। ऊद्वृत्रहन वाजिनां वाजिनान्युद्रथानां जयतां यन्तु घोषाः।
ūddharṣaya maghavannāyudhānyutsatvanā≈ māmakānā≈ manā|nsi. ūdvṛtrahan vājinā≈ vājinānyudrathānā≈ jayatā≈ yantu ghoṣāḥ.
Lift up, O generous one, the weapons of the eager; Inspire the hearts of my people. Let shouts of victory go forth for the slayers of Vṛtra, for the swift steeds, the chargers and the furious.

Seize and hold the hearts of those covetous of my goods; take their limbs away to others. Burn away griefs in the hearts of the blind enemies, remove their darkness.

Having rained down, descend like an arrow upon the marsh, united with Brahman. Go, O friend; step forward—let not any greedy man lift his head.

Yasya kurmo gṛhe havistamagne vardhayā tvam. Tasmai devā'adhi bruvannaya≈ ca brahmaṇaspatiḥ.
The tortoise whose sacrifice is in the house, O Agni, you increase. The gods speak this over him; so says Brahmāṇaspati.

Pa¤ca diśo daivīryaj¤amavantu devīrapāmati≈ durmati≈ bādhamānāḥ. Rayaspoṣe yaj¤apatimābhajantī rāyaspoṣe'adhi yaj¤o'asthāt.
May the five directions hold the divine power of the sacrifice; may goddesses restrain the harmful folly. They honored the sacrifice with royal nourishment; the sacrifice stood before royal sustenance.

Samiddhe'agnāvadhi māmahāna'ukthapatra' īŒyo gṛbhītaḥ. Tapta≈ gharma≈ parigṛhyāyajantorjā yadyaj¤amayajanta devāḥ.
When the fire was kindled for slaughter they sang my great hymn and took up the sacrificial leaf. Holding the heated fat and embers they offered—if the gods offered not the regular oblation, they performed another rite.

Daivyāya dhartre joṣṭre devaśrīḥ śrīmanāḥ śatapayāḥ. Parigṛhya devā yaj¤amāyan devā devebhyo'adhvaryanto'asthuḥ.
For the divine bearer, the joyous, the glorious, the wealthy—by hundreds they, full of glory, brought the gods’ oblation. Taking hold, the gods carried the sacrifice to the gods and were placed before the gods.

Sūuryaraśmirharikeśaḥ purastātsavitā jyotirudayā|n' ajasram. Tasya pūuṣā prasave yāti vidvāntsampaśyan viśvā bhuvanāni gopāḥ.
The sun’s ray, with golden hair, before it the Savitṛ rises, the light that never ceases. His Pūṣan goes at birth; the wise behold all worlds as shepherds.

Vimāna'eṣa divo madhya'āsta'āpaprivān rodasī' antarikṣam. Sa viśvācīrabhicaṣṭe ghṛtācīrantarā pūurvamapara≈ ca ketum.
This vehicle stood mid-heaven, a bearer of waters, robed in atmosphere. It, stretching a band of fat and ghee, was a banner before and behind.

ūkṣā samudro'aruṇaḥ suparṇaḥ pū u rvasya yoni≈ piturā viveśa. Madhye divo nihitaḥ pṛśniraśmā vi cakrame rajasaspātyantau.
The reed, the sea, the ruddy bird, the long-winged—each entered its father’s womb. Mid-heaven was set the twinkling ray; they moved in the course of the moving and the stationary.

Indra invigorates all; the mountain roars with the sea. He who bestows chariots to charioteers, to the steeds, is the true lord, the sovereign.

Devahūuryaj¤a'ā ca vakṣat sumnahūuryaj¤a'ā ca vakṣat. Yakṣadagnirdevo devā|n'ā ca vakṣat.
They spoke of the divine oblation, the good oblation; they spoke also of the auspicious oblation. The sacrificial fire and the god declared among the gods.

O Vājas, do not let birth be seized by the fierce nor by the dread. Let not Indra seize my foes; may they not touch my base.

The fierce-snatched and the seized, the brahman-gods grew not. May Indra’s flame, O foe, wither those who are full of poison and those who glare.

Step the path with ordered fire, bearing the noose, the mouthguard, hands. Having touched the dayside attain heaven; mixed with the gods go forth.

Prācīmanu pradiśa≈ prehi vidvānagneragne puro' agnirbhaveha. Viśva'āśā dīdyāno vi bhāhyūurja≈ no dhehi dvipade catuṣpade.
Send the eastern region forward, O wise one; Agni, Agni, become the foremost fire. Give strength to us, the wish of the universe, shining with outward vigour for the two-footed and four-footed.

Pṛthivyā'ahamudantarikṣamāruham antarikṣāddivamāruham. Divo nākasya pṛṣṭhāt svarjyotiragāmaham.
I have mounted the earth and risen to the atmosphere; from the atmosphere I have mounted to the heaven. From behind the sky I came, a radiant light of heaven.

Svaryanto nāpekṣanta'ā dyā|m rohanti rodasī. Yaj|na≈ ye viśvatodhāra|m suvidvā|mso vitenire.
The skies do not look for themselves; the rivers flow to the sky. Those who uphold the whole sacrifice, the wise ones, bear it forth as oblations.

Agni, send forth as foremost; be the eye of the gods and the mortal folk. May the Bhrigus, pleased, watch over those offering; may the worshippers shine onward—auspiciousness.

Night and dawn, with one mind, warm the single infant like a mother. The sun shines within the sky, gleaming with brilliance; gods sustain Agni who bears riches.

Agni of a thousand eyes, a hundred faces, a hundred heights—your breaths are a thousand, your vyānas a thousand. You are the king of a thousand; we invoke you—may we offer you wealth, svāhā.

You are a lofty bird, Garutman; sit on the back of the earth. Shine in the atmosphere, fill with light; with brilliance uplift the directions.

Åjuhvānaḥ supratīkaḥ purastādagne sva≈ yonimāsīda sādhuyā. āsmintsadhasthe' adhyuttarasmin viśve devā yajamānaśca sīdata.
The call is well-omened; O Agni, sit before, take your place rightly. Here in the seat below and above all, all the gods and the worshipper sat.

Tā| m saviturvareṇyasya citrāmā'ha≈ vṛṇe sumati≈ viśvajanyām. Yāmasya kaṇvo aduhatprapīnā|m sahasradhārā≈ payasā mahī≈ gām.
I choose the brilliant of Savitṛ, the good-minded, born to the world. Kanva milks the kine of the night with thousand streams of milk; the earth goes with the waters.

Vidhema te parame janmannagne vidhema stomairavare sadhasthe. Yasmādyonerudārithā yaje ta≈ pra tve havī|nṣi juhure samiddhe.
We may enact for you the supreme birth, O Agni; we may enact with hymns in the good seat. Because of the generous one of the wombs you worship, you, accept the libation; they poured oblations into the kindled (fire).

O Agni, shine forth before us with swift splendour, the youthful and the vigorous. The powers advance toward you forever.

Citti≈ juhomi manasā ghṛtena yathā devā' ihāgaman vītihotrā'ṛtāvṛdhaḥ. Patye viśvasya bhū u mano juhomi viśvakarmaṇe viśvāhā' dābhya|m haviḥ.
I offer mind with the heart, with ghee, as the gods came here—those purified, free from error. To the lord of the universe I offer the mind; to Viśvakarman I offer the oblation, the offering.

Seven of your fuel, Agni; seven tongues, seven seers, seven beloved abodes. Seven priests invoke you sevenfold; fill seven wombs with ghee—svāhā.

īdṛkṣāsa'etādṛkṣāsa'ūu ṣu ṇaḥ sadṛkṣāsaḥ pratisadṛkṣāsa'etana. Mitāsaśca sammitāso no'adya sabharaso maruto yaj¤e'asmin.
These visions and such visions, those like and counterlike; the measured and well-measured—grant us these abiding powers, O Maruts, in this sacrifice today.

And your own parts, the resplendent, the soothing, the household-knower. The playful, the leafy, the one who will grant.

May this breast, full of vigour, sustaining sacrificial food and drink, O Agni, dwell in the body’s midst. Rise, be pleased, O sweet-flowing one; enter the ocean-seat and abode.

घृतं मिमिक्षे घृतमस्य योनिर्घृते श्रितो घृतम्वस्य धाम। आनुष्वधमावह मादयस्व स्वाहाकृतं वृषभ वक्षि हव्यम।
Ghṛta≈ mimikṣe ghṛtamasya yonirghṛte śrito ghṛtamvasya dhāma. ānuṣvadhamāvaha mādayasva svāhākṛta≈ vṛṣabha vakṣi havyam.
I anoint with ghee; may the womb, resting in ghee, be ghee’s dwelling. Bring forth the oblations, make them pleasing; O bull, place the Havyam on the breast offered with Svaha and sanctify it.

समुद्रादूउर्मिर्मधुमांनऽउदारदुपांशुना सममृतत्वमानत। घृतस्य नाम गुह्यं यदस्ति जिह्वा देवानाममृतस्य नाभिः।
Samudrādūurmirmadhumā|n'udāradupāṃśunā samamṛtatvamānat. Ghṛtasya nāma guhya≈ yadasti jihvā devānāmamṛtasya nābhiḥ.
From the sea’s swell of honey came forth generous sweetness equal to ambrosia. The secret name of ghee is what the tongue is to the gods — the navel of immortality.
Yajurveda 17.90 — Agni Devata

वयं नाम प्र ब्रवामा घृतस्यास्मिन यज्ञे धारयामा नमोभिः। ऊप ब्रह्मा शृणवच्छस्यमानं चतुःसृङ्गोऽवमीद गौरऽएतत।
Vaya≈ nāma pra bravāmā ghṛtasyāsmin yaj¤e dhārayāmā namobhiḥ. ūpa brahmā śṛṇavacchasyamāna≈ catuḥsṛΔgo'vamīd gaura'etat.
We proclaim the name and speak: in this sacrifice may we hold the ghee with reverence. Brahmā approached and, hearing, bowed; the four-horned white one entered here.

व्कओओ चत्वारि शृङ्गा त्रयोऽअस्य पादा द्वे शिर्षे सप्त हस्तासोऽअस्य। त्रिधा बद्धो वृषभो रोरवीति महो देवो मर्त्यांनऽआ विवेश।
vkfoo Catvāri śṛΔgā trayo'asya pādā dve śirṣe sapta hastāso'asya. Tridhā baddho vṛṣabho roravīti maho devo martyā|n'ā viveśa.
He has four horns, three feet, two heads, seven hands. Bound threefold, the bull bellows; the great god entered mortal realms roaring.
Yajurveda 17.92 — YajnaPurusha Devata

त्रिधा हितं पणिभिर्गुह्यमानं गवि देवासो घृतमन्वविन्दन। ईन्द्रऽ एकंम सूउर्यऽ एकं जजान वेनादेकंम स्वधया निष्टतक्षुः।
Tridhā hita≈ paṇibhirguhyamāna≈ gavi devāso ghṛtamanvavindan. īndra' eka|m sūurya' eka≈ jajāna venādeka|m svadhayā niṣṭatakṣuḥ.
Threefold the priests, concealed by palms, sought ghee in the cow; devas found the ghee. Indra begot one, Sūrya one; by a single vein they fastened one with Svadhā.

एताऽअर्षन्ति हृद्यात समुद्राच्छतव्रजा रिपुणा नावचक्षे। घृतस्य धाराऽअभिचाकशीमि हिरण्ययो वेतसो मध्यऽआसाम।
Etā'arṣanti hṛdyāt samudrācchatavrajā ripuṇā nāvacakṣe. Ghṛtasya dhārā'abhicākaśīmi hiraṇyayo vetaso madhya'āsām.
They poured from the heart like rivers, like a hundred streams across the ocean; I shed the flows of ghee, I shone amid the golden coursers of the sun.

सम्यक स्रवन्ति सरितो न धेनाऽअन्तर्हृदा मनसा पू उ यमानाः। एतेऽअर्षन्त्यू उ र्मयो घृतस्य मृगाऽइव क्षिपणोरीषमाणाः।
Samyak sravanti sarito na dhenā'antarhṛdā manasā pū u yamānāḥ. Ete'arṣantyū u rmayo ghṛtasya mṛgā'iva kṣipaṇorīṣamāṇāḥ.
Rivers truly flow; not kine within the heart, but thoughts filled with desire. These flowed like herds of beasts of ghee, casting forth various shafts.
Yajurveda 17.96 — YajnaPurusha Devata

आभि प्रवन्त समनेव योषाः कल्याण्यः स्मयमानासोऽअग्निम। घृतस्य धाराः समिधो नसन्त ता जुषाणो हर्यति जातवेदाः।
ābhi pravanta samaneva yoṣāḥ kalyāṇyaḥ smayamānāso'agnim. Ghṛtasya dhārāḥ samidho nasanta tā juṣāṇo haryati jātavedāḥ.
They shone forth, like cows advancing, joyous and bringing Agni. The streams of ghee, fed by fuel, when offered, the Jātavedas carries away rejoicing.
Yajurveda 17.98 — YajnaPurusha Devata

आभ्यर्षत सुष्टुतिं गव्यमाजिमस्मासु भद्रा द्रविणानि धत्त। ईमं यज्ञं नयत देवता नो घृतस्य धारा मधुमत पवन्ते।
ābhyarṣata suṣṭuti≈ gavyamājimasmāsu bhadrā draviṇāni dhatta. īma≈ yaj¤a≈ nayata devatā no ghṛtasya dhārā madhumat pavante.
They praised aloud, offering laudation; place auspicious wealth in our offerings. Lead these rites, O gods, that the streams of sweet ghee come to us.

धामं ते विश्वं भुवनमधि श्रितमन्तः समुद्रे हृद्यन्तरायुषि। आपामनीके समिथे यऽ आभृतस्तमश्याम मधुमन्तं तऽऊउर्मिम।
Dhāma≈ te viśva≈ bhuvanamadhi śritamantaḥ samudre hṛdyantarāyuṣi. āpāmanīke samithe ya' ābhṛtastamaśyāma madhumanta≈ ta'ūurmim.
May your abode, the world, the dwelling placed on the earth, remain within the ocean, the life within the heart. In the sacrificial basin and hearth that hold the dark one, may the sweet one be present there.
