Thus, Krishna, aided by Baladeva, performed the killing of the demons for the sake of the world.

kṣiteś ca bhāraṃ bhagavān phālgunena samaṃ vibhuḥ avatārayām āsa hariḥ samastākṣauhiṇīvadhāt ||
The Lord, equal to the burden of the earth, descended as Phalguna, to destroy all the Kshatriyas.

kṛtvā bhārāvataraṇaṃ bhuvo hatvākhilān nṛpān || śāpavyājena viprāṇām upasaṃhṛtavān kulam ||
Having performed the burden-lifting of the earth and having killed all the kings, he, under the pretext of a curse, gathered the Brahmins.

utsṛjya dvārakāṃ kṛṣṇas tyaktvā mānuṣyam ātmabhūḥ sāṃśo viṣṇumayaṃ sthānaṃ praviveśa punar nijam ||
Abandoning Dvaraka, Krishna, having renounced his human form, entered once again his own abode, which is composed of Vishnu.

By the ruse of a Brahmin's curse, how did Janardana abandon his own family and how did he give up his human body?

Thus, the great sages like Vishwamitra, Kanva, and Narada were seen at the sacred place of Pindaraka with the sons of Yadu.

tatas te yauvanonmattā bhāvikāryapracoditāḥ sāmbaṃ jāmbavatīputraṃ bhūṣayitvā striyaṃ yathā ||
Then, being intoxicated by youth and urged by the desire for action, they adorned Samba, the son of Jambavati, just as a woman would.

The sages asked, 'What will this woman, desiring a son, give birth to?'

दिव्यज्ञानोपपन्नास ते विप्रलब्धाः कुमारकैः ।। मुनयः कुपिताः प्रोचुर मुसलं जनयिष्यति ।। येनाखिलकुलोत्सादो यादवानां भविष्यति ।।
divyajñānopapannās te vipralabdhāḥ kumārakaiḥ || munayaḥ kupitāḥ procur musalaṃ janayiṣyati || yenākhilakulotsādo yādavānāṃ bhaviṣyati ||
Those who have attained divine knowledge, the Brahmins, will be deceived by the boys. The angry sages will say that a pestle will be born, which will lead to the destruction of the entire Yadava lineage.

इत्य उक्तास तैः कुमारास ते आचचक्षुर यथातथम उग्रसेनाय मुसलं जज्ञे साम्बस्य चोदरात ।।
ity uktās taiḥ kumārās te ācacakṣur yathātatham ugrasenāya musalaṃ jajñe sāmbasya codarāt ||
Thus instructed by them, the boys revealed the truth to Ugrasena, and a pestle was born from the womb of Samba.

tad ugraseno musalam ayaścūrṇam akārayat jajñe sa cairakāś cūrṇaḥ prakṣiptas tair mahodadhau ||
Then Ugrasena created the pestle, and from it, a great powder was produced, which was thrown into the ocean by them.

musalasyātha lohasya cūrṇitasyāndhakair dvija khaṇḍaṃ cūrṇayituṃ śekur naikaṃ te tomarākṛti ||
The Brahmins, who were the descendants of Andhaka, could not crush even one piece of the pestle, which was made of iron.

तद अप्य अम्बुनिधौ क्षिप्तं मत्स्यो जग्राह जालिभिः घातितस्योदरात तस्य लुब्धो जग्राह तं जराः ।।
tad apy ambunidhau kṣiptaṃ matsyo jagrāha jālibhiḥ ghātitasyodarāt tasya lubdho jagrāha taṃ jarāḥ ||
Even that was thrown into the ocean, and a fish caught it with its net; the greedy one seized it from the womb of the slain.

विज्ञातपरमार्थो ऽपि भगवान मधुसूदनः नैच्छत तद अन्यथाकर्तुं विधिना यत समाहितम ।।
vijñātaparamārtho 'pi bhagavān madhusūdanaḥ naicchat tad anyathākartuṃ vidhinā yat samāhitam ||
Even though the Supreme Lord Madhusudana is known for his ultimate truth, he did not wish to act otherwise than what was determined by the law, which is firmly established.

देवैश च प्रहितो दूतः प्रणिपत्याह केशवम रहस्य एवम अहं दूतः प्रहितो भगवन सुरैः ।।
devaiś ca prahito dūtaḥ praṇipatyāha keśavam rahasy evam ahaṃ dūtaḥ prahito bhagavan suraiḥ ||
A messenger sent by the gods, bowing down, spoke to Keshava: 'Thus, I am the messenger sent by the gods, O Lord.'

Accompanied by the Vasus, the Maruts, the Adityas, and the Rudras, Shakra informs you, 'O Lord, listen to this.'

bhārāvatāraṇārthāya varṣāṇām adhikaṃ śatam bhagavān avatīrṇo 'tra tridaśaiḥ saṃprasāditaḥ ||
To relieve the burden of the earth, the Lord has descended here, having been pleased by the celestial beings for more than a hundred years.

durvṛttā nihatā daityā bhuvo bhāro 'vatāritaḥ tvayā sanāthās tridaśā bhavantu tridive sadā ||
The wicked demons have been destroyed, and the burden of the earth has been lifted; may the celestial beings always be protected by you in the heavens.

That which has passed is over a hundred years of the Lord of the Universe. Now, let us go to heaven if it pleases you.

देवैर विज्ञाप्यते चेदं अथात्रैव रतिस तव तत स्थीयतां यथाकालम आख्येयम अनुजीविभिः ।।
devair vijñāpyate cedaṃ athātraiva ratis tava tat sthīyatāṃ yathākālam ākhyeyam anujīvibhiḥ ||
If this is communicated by the gods, let your pleasure remain here as long as it should be told by the living beings.

yat tvam ātthākhilaṃ dūta vedmy etad aham apy uta prārabdha eva hi mayā yādavānām api kṣayaḥ ||
What you have known completely, O messenger, I also know this. It is indeed the destiny that I have, even for the Yadavas, to face destruction.

bhuvo nādyāpi bhāro 'yaṃ yādavair anibarhitaiḥ avatārya karomy etat saptarātreṇa satvaraḥ ||
This burden of the earth has not yet been lifted by the Yadavas. I will descend and accomplish this swiftly within seven nights.

As I have taken the water from the ocean, I will go to Dwarka, gathering the Yadavas, and then I will proceed to the abode of the gods.

Having abandoned the human body, I have attained the assistance of Sankarshana; thus, I am to be contemplated by Indra and the gods.

जरासंधादयो ये ऽन्ये निहता भारहेतवः क्षितेस तेभ्यः कुमारो ऽपि यदूनां नापचीयते ।।
jarāsaṃdhādayo ye 'nye nihatā bhārahetavaḥ kṣites tebhyaḥ kumāro 'pi yadūnāṃ nāpacīyate ||
Those like Jarasandha who are killed for the sake of the burden of the earth, even their sons do not diminish among the Yadavas.

Thus, having descended this great burden, I shall go to protect the immortal realm; tell them this.

Thus addressed by Vasudeva, the divine messenger, bowing to him, went to the abode of the king of gods by the divine path.

Even the Lord, having seen the divine disturbances in Dwaraka, aimed for destruction day and night.

tān dṛṣṭvā yādavān āha paśyadhvam atidāruṇān mahotpātāñ chamāyaiṣāṃ prabhāsaṃ yāma mā ciram ||
Seeing them, the Yadavas said: 'Look at these extremely dreadful calamities. Let us go to the place of light without delay.'

mahābhāgavataḥ prāha praṇipatyoddhavo harim bhagavan yan mayā kāryaṃ tad ājñāpaya sāmpratam manye kulam idaṃ sarvaṃ bhagavān saṃhariṣyati ||
The great devotee spoke, bowing down to Uddhava: 'O Lord, whatever work I have to do, please command me now. I believe that the Lord will protect this entire family.'

gaccha tvaṃ divyayā gatyā matprasādasamutthayā badarīkāśramaṃ puṇyaṃ gandhamādanaparvate naranārāyaṇasthāne tatpāvitamahītale ||
You go by the divine path, uplifted by My grace, to the sacred Badarikashrama on the Gandhamadana mountain, where the place of Nara-Narayana is located on the purified earth.

manmanā matprasādena tatra siddhim avāpsyasi ahaṃ svargaṃ gamiṣyāmi upasaṃhṛtya vai kulam ||
With your mind focused on Me and by My grace, you will attain success there. I shall go to heaven, having gathered this family.

Thus addressed, he bowed down and went to him, approved by Keshava, to the place of Narayana.

Then all the Yadavas quickly mounted their chariots and proceeded to Prabhasa along with Krishna, Rama, and others.

प्राप्य प्रभासं प्रयताः स्नातास ते कुकुरान्धकाः चक्रुस तत्र मुदा पानं वासुदेवानुमोदिताः ।।
prāpya prabhāsaṃ prayatāḥ snātās te kukurāndhakāḥ cakrus tatra mudā pānaṃ vāsudevānumoditāḥ ||
Upon reaching Prabhasa, the Kukurandhakas, having bathed, joyfully prepared to drink, approved by Vasudeva.

पिबतां तत्र वै तेषां संघर्षेण परस्परम अतिवादेन्धनो जज्ञे कलहाग्निः क्षयावहः ।।
pibatāṃ tatra vai teṣāṃ saṃgharṣeṇa parasparam ativādendhano jajñe kalahāgniḥ kṣayāvahaḥ ||
Let them drink there; in their conflict with each other, a fire of quarrel was born, leading to destruction.

jaghnuḥ parasparaṃ te tu śastrair daivabalātkṛtāḥ kṣīṇaśastrāś ca jagṛhuḥ pratyāsannām athairakām ||
They killed each other with weapons created by divine power, and those with weakened weapons grasped at the approaching ones.

erakā tu gṛhītā tair vajrabhūteva lakṣyate tayā parasparaṃ jaghnuḥ saṃprahāre sudāruṇe ||
The one resembling a thunderbolt was seized by them, and they killed each other in a fierce battle.

pradyumnasāmbapramukhāḥ kṛtavarmātha sātyakiḥ aniruddhādayaś cānye pṛthur vipṛthur eva ca ||
Prominent among Pradyumna and Samba were Kritavarma and Satyaki, along with Aniruddha and others, both broad and narrow.

चारुवर्मा चारुकश च तथाक्रूरादयो द्विज एरकारूपिभिर वज्रैस ते निजघ्नुः परस्परम ।।
cāruvarmā cārukaś ca tathākrūrādayo dvija erakārūpibhir vajrais te nijaghnuḥ parasparam ||
Charuvarma, Charuka, and others like Krura, the twice-born, killed each other with weapons resembling thunderbolts.

निवारयाम आस हरिर यादवांस ते च केशवम सहायं मेनिरे प्राप्तं ते निजघ्नुः परस्परम ।।
nivārayām āsa harir yādavāṃs te ca keśavam sahāyaṃ menire prāptaṃ te nijaghnuḥ parasparam ||
Hari prevented them, and the Yadavas called for Keshava as their aid, and they killed each other.

The unborn, the imperishable, the immeasurable, in the totality of the self, having abandoned the human body, transcended the threefold path.
